This weekend I went to see Martin Newell and his hosepipe band open the Felixstowe book festival at The Two Sister arts Centre in Trimely. I last saw Martin in Wivenhoe, where we got rip-roaringly drunk in the pub. Martin is a brilliant poet, and a great singer – well-known for 80’s rock band The Cleaners from Venus. He’s a genuinely likeable eccentric and really quite a sensitive soul – and Oh! What a great coat he wore! If you have the chance to see him perform, don’t miss it. He is a genius, and the band are also amazing.
