I have many projects, and books to finish and publish. So for a bit of fun, this will be a running series about a Ginger cat called Max. Tune in for episodes daily/weekly – as often as I can keep them up!
Prologue:
An introduction to Max.
Every day for a month, Max took a chance with his nine lives, risking the swish of the automatic doors at the library. Mis-jusged, the doors were as lethal as Madame Guillotine, which he had actually seen in action in France centuries ago and had no wish to encounter on a personal level.
Humans, he thought. Always trying to find a new way to kill each other.
He was not heavy enough to make the doors open on his own, begin a sleek and agile ginger cat. But Max waited until an unsuspecting human stepped onto the mat and took his chances with an artful dodge through the doorway. Lately, though, a sign had been placed outside, warning humans not to let him in. Max was a wanted feline; a felon; a criminal cat. He was doubly insulted by the wording of the poster: ‘Max is nice. Max likes to be in the library. But do not let Max into the library.’ Nice! Max was to be dismissed by that insipid word, ‘Nice’! Max was over ten thousand years old and was entrusted with the secret to the survival of the universe (amongst other things!). He’d hidden it inside a copy of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, and now he needed to get it back.
