After a complete relaxation in Turkey, (an adventure I will also write about), I was straight into work mode and back on stage. Midweek I had the honour of opening the new library at Warren Hill Prison – always a pleasure – and then by the Friday I was performing poetry in a spectacular show alongside James Domestic, AJ Deane and Dawn Vincent. We are all very different, although one feature Domestic and I have in common is entertaining with comedy and a love of cats! I made quite the showbiz entrance in my gold wings with Tourist to the Sun, then varied my performance from serious and visual poetry to comical and punkish rap-style beats. I wrote two songs – one about cat re-incarnation (!) and one astronaut-based spacey journey. Bill Stoddart provided evocative keyboards and rhythms and James Domestic improved my music by adapting my little tune to full-on folkish electric guitar. I can’t wait to perform with them again! There’s a second chance to catch short excerpts from this show on June 27th at 2 Sisters Arts Centre again, when I guest poet with Paul Armfield’s musical set, and you can catch the cat song on Insta and Facebook. (soon to be on YouTube!)
If you have never been to this venue, it’s cracking! Come along for Felixstowe book week. I also appear in the library as book of the week on the evening of June 26th ticket link here.
